Here’s how to you to play along for the Write A Story Challenge – unless otherwise noted in the month’s directions:
- Each day use the prompt word and write one to three sentences that includes it. How you use the prompt in your scene is up to you!
- Post your newest scene to Instagram or to Facebook.
- Use the hashtag #writeastorychallenge.
- Tag us so we can cheer you on!
- Instagram – @chautona and
- Facebook – @chautona and @picayunepen
- Twitter – @chautona and @picayunepen
- Your blog – just link back to this post so we can comment on your story!
By the end of the month you’ll have a short story of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 words.
Wait! What if I don’t like that day’s prompt? No problem! Substitute it with one of the Bonus Words. But there’s a catch (isn’t there always): you can only substitute a daily prompt up to ten times without repeats.
I was wondering, IF, each month is supposed to be a new story? I have kept it all the same story… Since Jan. I have 6179 words. I did not know it was supposed to be a complete story each month. Is it okay? To do one whole story? For the whole year?
Nick, that is entirely up to you! I’ve been writing about a single character and her adventures. The nice thing about #writeastorychallenge is that other than the daily prompts there aren’t any rules. You could even stop that story and start another at anytime in the month. I hope this helps clarify things for you.
